2025 Child Protection Month: Let’s Root Out Child Abuse Together (2)
How Can We All Help to Maximize The Impact of our organisations, Shelters, social workers and police?
To ensure these organizations continue their vital work, we must:
1. Increase Funding and Visibility
- Advocate for government and private sector funding to keep registered shelters open.
- Raise awareness through community engagement and media coverage.
2. Strengthen Local Networks
- Encourage collaboration between NGOs, and social services to share resources and expertise.
- Know your referral systems so families in crisis can easily find help.
- Strengthen (perhaps adopt) your local SAPS Victim Empowerment Centre.
3. Support Social Workers and Caregivers
- Train and retain more social workers to provide professional care.
- Ensure shelters have qualified staff and mental health support for children and families.
This Is Child Protection Month – Not Just Words and T-Shirts
We don’t need more rallies and slogans. We need real investment in child protection—bursaries for more social workers, training of ALL staff in schools, workshops with parents of those same schools and support for police stations as they work to handle child abuse cases effectively.
